This is Who We are
The University of Guyana Foundation (UGF) is a registered charitable, non-profit, non-partisan
organization whose mission is to support the development of the University of Guyana (UG). In June
2018, UG’s Council approved the establishment of the Foundation, based on a proposal by then-Deputy
Vice-Chancellor, Philanthropy, Alumni and Civic Engagement (PACE) Professor Paloma Mohammed. In
October 2020, the Council also approved and appointed the first set of Trustees of the Foundation’s
Board chaired by Chancellor Professor Edward Greene. The Board in turn appointed the late Mr. Yesu
Persaud as the first Honorary Patron in recognition of his tangible contribution to the inauguration of the
Foundation in February, 2021.
UGF is governed by a Board made up of 12 Trustees and a maximum of 6 ex-officio members. It is
complemented by UGF Associates in Canada, The Caribbean, UK and USA.
The Board at its meeting in October 2025 appointed Honorary Patrons of the Foundation drawn from
distinguished professionals to provide advice and lend their good names to support UGF’s mission and
objectives.
